What changed

The EU AI Act entered into force August 1, 2024, with phased implementation. Prohibited practices (social scoring, manipulative AI) became applicable February 2, 2025. General-Purpose AI rules applied August 2, 2025. The major deadline — high-risk AI system obligations — hits August 2, 2026. SMEs face compliance costs of €50K–500K. Quality Management Systems and technical documentation are the highest-cost items. But the deeper problem is that over 50% of organizations don't even know how many AI systems they currently deploy. You can't comply with what you can't inventory.

What would we build first?

How is this different from existing GRC tools?

Traditional Governance, Risk, and Compliance platforms weren't designed for AI systems. They track policies and controls, not models, training data, and inference pipelines. The AI Act requires system-level documentation, data quality assurance, and continuous performance monitoring — all of which are technical, not administrative.
